Igorre Council together with GaituzSport, the reference facilitating agent for inclusion through sport, is increasing its municipal sports offer with new gym activities, thereby, reinforcing its commitment to inclusion through sport.
The programme has facilitated access for the disabled and/or those with health problems to do water activities since 2023-2024, and which 12 people from the town are already taking part.
And, now it’s taking another step forward with the offer of new gym activities, including: keep fit, postural correction and multisport so more people can benefit from doing sport in a safe accessible environment. This advance is in response to the growing demand and reinforcement of the Council’s commitment to equal opportunities in terms of sport access.
WHAT DOES THE INCLUSIVE PROGRAMME OFFER?
- ORIENTATION INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE SERVICE
GaituzSport professionals who are PE graduates specialised in health and disABILITY inform and orientate people to the most appropriate activities for their needs.
An initial functional assessment is carried out to find out each person’s needs and capacities to ensure everyone finds the physical-sports activity which motivates and benefits him/her most in terms of safety and quality.
- ADAPTED SPORT OFFER
Designed and aimed at the disABLED and/or those with health problems ensuring everyone can take part and enjoy sports activities in equal conditions.
- POOL: Initiation and intermediate levels.
- GYM: Keep fit, postural correction and multisport.
- CHANGING ROOM ASSISTANCE & ACCOMPANIMENT
The user is assessed to see whether he/she requires this highly important and necessary resource to facilitate sport practice access.
- ACCOMPANIMIENT & ADVICE IN NORMALISED GROUP
Direct accompaniment service is offered to the disabled and/or those with health problems for a specific number of sessions.
ACCESSIBLE SPORTS SPACES & ADAPTED EQUIPMENT to enable the disABLED and/or with health problems to access sports practice in equal conditions.
KIPREST APP
You use a technological support resource, i.e. GaituzSport Kiprest platform, a mobile App facilitating access to information and communication among participants, families and/or professionals co-ordinating and imparting the activities.
The start-up of this programme is the result of Igorre Council and GaituzSport working together, where an exhaustive analysis and diagnostic of the municipal sports offer was carried out.
From thereon, several areas for improvement were identified and critical recommendations established to enrich the town’s sports offer.
