The 19th edition of Kosta Trail sporting event for the benefit of GaituzSport supporting inclusion through sport, and organised by Forum Sport with Salomon and Laboral Kutxa, took place on Sunday, 15th June.
The 4,000 competition bibs were sold out days before the event; and despite the rain and mud a solidarity tide of participants, over 3,500 took part in a festive spirit in the 3 modalities, namely: half marathon (21k), mountain hike (20k) and family hike (7k).
Aarón Alonso and Sara Gutiérrez were the Kosta Trail 2025 Mountain Half-Marathon winners.
This has also been the most inclusive edition with the participation of paralympian Pol Makurique who returned to the Kosta Trail Half Marathon arriving 61st in the men’s category consolidating the presence of inclusive sport in this event after his historic participation in 2024. Furthermore, disabled athletes from Club Javi Conde also took part this year.
And let’s not forget the inclusive perspective of the organisation with the presence of a sign language interpreter during the Award Winning Ceremony.
Not just a sporting event
As in previous years part of the funds collected will be donated to GaituzSport Fundazioa, which fosters inclusion of the disabled through physical activity and sports in equal conditions, and being diversity friendly. Xabier Leizea, chairman of GaituzSport stated: “We’re grateful to the organisation and entire tide of solidarity for supporting our project. Kosta Trail represents the values of inclusion and diversity in sport”.
Jesús Beamonte, Forum Sport Communication and Advertising director highlighted the fact that “Kosta Trail is more than just a sporting event, but also an opportunity to make visible and provide support for projects like GaituzSport work day-to-day for a more inclusive and equal society through sport. Initiatives of this kind show sport can and must be a driving force for social change.”
Once again this event has proven its commitment to sustainability, reducing plastics, using biodegradable compostable signage including self-sufficiency among the hike participants. Moreover, graphic and logistics material from previous editions were also reused to reduce their environmental impact.
Kosta Trail has established itself for yet another year as much more than just a sporting event, but also as: a mountain session, inclusion, environment friendly plus shared values set in one of the most spectacular landscapes of the Cantabrian coast.
