“Inclusion in Movement” the health and physical activity programme for people with rare diseases

Doing Physical-Sporting Activities as a personal and social phenomenon promotes inclusion enabling the disabled and/or those with health disorders to have social life.

At GaituzSport, we continue to weave the inclusion network and have designed and launch a new health Programme via physical activity, i.e. “Inclusion in Movement: Empowering the Community”, aimed at people with a rare disease diagnosis belonging to the Basque Spina Bifida & Hydrocephaly Rare Diseases Association, ASEBIER.

The programme being carried out at ASEBIER’s installations aims to contribute to the participants’ inclusion and well-being offering them the opportunities and necessary resources through supervised specific physical activity began on 7th May.

GOALS

The goals are to foster health and social inclusion for people with rare diseases via a personalised supervised specific physical activity programme.

Fostering equal participation and facilitating the necessary support resources to undertake activity in equal conditions, likewise ensuring their active participation in society and improving their quality of life.

The incorporation of a correctly planned physical activity programme structured as per each person’s capabilities and needs will contribute to improving their physical and mental health. Furthermore, it is yet another important factor in preventing the onset of new symptoms or deterioration.

The “Inclusion in Movement: Empowering the Community” programme seeks to tackle those vulnerabilities providing equal access to inclusive physical activity programmes as well as emotional, social and technical support to facilitate their participation and foster their integral well-being.

POSITIVE EXPERIENCE

The sessions are customised as per the participants’ capacity and imparted by GaituzSport professionals who are PE & Sports Graduates with a Master in Health.

The experience of the group taking part in the programme is both highly considered and positive.

The group actively participates thereby improving their autonomy and Independence; moreover, it is a means to generate social experiences where they can acquire skills for their day-to-day lives creating community ties.

This programme has a 3 month duration and finishes on 30th July.

The programme methodology involves an initial assessment of each participant to detect their needs and obstacles, likewise their capacities to customise their activities taking into account their interests.

In addition, the GaituzSport professionals measured each participant’s strength, co-ordination and level of well-being, etc., via different tests for this purpose.

Individualised follow-up is carried throughout the programme duration and on completion, when a final assessment of each participant is carried out.

The “Inclusion in Movement: Empowering the Community” Programme is open to new collectives and associations.
